Smart Heating Controls in Colchester & Essex
Thermostats and zoned controls that actually save money — fitted and set up properly, rather than left on the default settings.
Where the saving comes from
A smart thermostat is only as good as its setup.
Most of the money a smart control saves comes from two things: not heating rooms nobody is in, and not heating the house when nobody is home. Neither of those happens automatically because you bought a well-reviewed thermostat — they happen because someone set it up around how your household actually works.
Left on factory settings, a smart thermostat is an expensive way to do exactly what your old one did. That is the honest reason most people are disappointed by them, and it is the part we spend time on.
What we fit
Controls, zoning and the wiring behind them.
- Smart and programmable thermostat installation
- Zoned heating so different areas run independently
- Thermostatic radiator valves, including smart ones
- Weather compensation where the boiler supports it
- Hot water scheduling and cylinder controls
- Replacing failed or obsolete controls
- Setup, and showing you how to actually use it
Worth knowing
Controls will not fix a badly balanced system.
If some radiators never get warm, a smart thermostat will not change that — it will just let you schedule the disappointment more precisely. Balancing, sludge and undersized radiators are system problems, and controls sit on top of a system that already works.
We will tell you which you have got. Sometimes the useful spend is a power flush or a balancing visit rather than a thermostat, and that is a cheaper answer than the one you came in asking for.
Common questions
What people ask about smart controls.
Will a smart thermostat actually save me money?
It can, meaningfully — but the saving comes from zoning and scheduling rather than from the device. A thermostat that ends up on a fixed schedule identical to your old timer saves nothing. Set up around how your household really runs, the difference is real.
Which brands do you fit?
Whatever suits the system and your boiler. Some controls talk to the boiler properly and can modulate it, which is where the bigger savings live; others just switch it on and off. We will tell you which category yours falls into.
Can I have different temperatures in different rooms?
That is zoning, and yes — either by splitting the system into zones with their own controls, or with smart radiator valves. Which is right depends on the pipework, and it is worth looking before buying anything.
Will it work with my old boiler?
Usually, though older boilers cannot always take advantage of the cleverer features like modulation or weather compensation. We will be straight about what your boiler will and will not support rather than sell you capability it cannot use.
Do you set it up, or just fit it?
Both. Fitting it is the quick part. We set it up around your household and show you how to change it, because a control nobody understands gets overridden within a fortnight and then it is just an expensive dial.
