Commercial Heat Pumps

Air source and VRF systems for schools, offices and commercial buildings across Essex and Suffolk — designed and sized properly, not sold off a brochure.

Why now

Grant funding is moving buildings off gas.

Schools and public buildings have been the fastest movers, largely because of Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme funding aimed specifically at replacing gas heating with heat pumps. Offices, retail and warehousing are moving more slowly — the technology works, but the case has to stack up against a working gas system with years left in it.

We’ll tell you honestly which side of that line your building sits on. Sometimes the right answer is a heat pump. Sometimes it’s keeping the boiler for now and revisiting in a few years. We don’t have a reason to push you either way.

What we install

Sized to the building, not the brochure.

  • Air source heat pumps for schools and public buildings
  • VRF and VRV multi-zone systems for offices and retail
  • Hybrid systems where a full switch off gas isn’t practical yet
  • Servicing and repair for heat pumps someone else installed

How it works

Surveyed like the building depends on it, because it does.

A heat pump runs at a lower flow temperature than a gas boiler, so the building’s heat loss, existing emitters, insulation and plant room space all matter more than they do with a like-for-like gas swap. We survey properly before we design anything — a heat pump specified off a floor plan and a guess is how installations end up expensive to run and blamed for it.

For occupied buildings — schools especially — installation gets phased around when the building is actually empty, not scheduled around our convenience. We’ve done enough school and commercial work to know term time and trading hours aren’t negotiable.

Why GH Heating

One team for whichever way you go.

  • Gas Safe registered 651846 and OFTEC registered
  • SafeContractor approved and independently vetted
  • Already working in schools, factories and supermarkets across Essex and Suffolk
  • The same team handles the heat pump and whatever gas system it replaces — no incentive to push you toward either
  • Work planned around term time and trading hours, not our diary

Common questions

What people ask about commercial heat pumps.

Is our building actually suitable for a heat pump?

It depends on insulation, existing emitters and available plant space more than on the building type. That’s what the survey establishes. We’d rather tell you a heat pump isn’t the right fit yet than sell you one that runs badly.

We’re a school — is there grant funding available?

Public sector decarbonisation funding has covered heat pump retrofits in schools before, though schemes and eligibility change. We can talk you through what’s live at the time and what a survey would need to show to support an application, but the funding decision itself sits with the scheme, not with us.

Can you install without disrupting term time or trading hours?

That’s how we plan it. Noisier and more disruptive work gets scheduled for holidays or out of hours where the building allows it, and we phase around what’s actually empty rather than working around our own diary.

Do you only do air source, or VRF as well?

Both. Air source suits most schools and standalone buildings; VRF and VRV multi-zone systems tend to be the better fit for offices and retail units with several separately controlled areas.

Can you service a heat pump someone else installed?

Yes. Annual servicing covers the refrigerant circuit, defrost operation, flow temperatures and controls — the things that separate an efficient system from an expensive one, regardless of who fitted it.
