South Suffolk is close enough to our Ardleigh base to be part of the everyday patch — the Stour valley, Hadleigh, Sudbury and the villages between them are a short run north. Ipswich and Felixstowe are further, and that is where the balance shifts from domestic to commercial.
Commercial work is the main reason we are in Suffolk. Plant rooms, planned maintenance, gas safety and multi-site servicing are worth the journey in a way that a single annual boiler service is not, so our reach for a school, a warehouse or a retail site extends well beyond where we would drive to look at one radiator.
The domestic side up here is dominated by two things: period property and oil. The old wool towns have timber-framed and listed buildings where flue routing needs thinking about rather than assuming, and a great deal of the county is off the gas grid entirely. Being OFTEC registered as well as Gas Safe is the difference between being able to help and not.
I used GH Heating services to install a new oil boiler, and was very satisfied with the service. I dealt with Gavin who was professional, courteous, and quick to respond to any questions. The installation was conducted within the expected timeframe, and the site was left in a clean and tidy condition. No. Gas Safe and OFTEC registration are national, not county-based. Our Gas Safe number is 651846 and it is valid wherever we work.
Yes, and this is where a lot of Suffolk struggles. Oil boilers need a different annual service to gas — burner strip-down, new nozzle, baffles cleaned, photocell checked — and it is not work a gas-only engineer can legally do. We are OFTEC registered with a dedicated oil plan from £14 a month.
No, but it changes the planning. The boiler is rarely the issue — it is where the flue can terminate, since a listed building or a street-facing elevation restricts the choice, and permitted development rights can be limited. We work that out at the survey and tell you before quoting.

Gavin has been servicing my gas boiler since he had to replace it's 38 year old predecessor, after I called him out to attempt to get it working. I now have to protect the 10 year warranty with an annual service including a filter change.
